Update on PCSO funding for Shavington-cum-Gresty

Dear Residents,

The Parish Council would like to inform you of an important update regarding the funding of our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). After careful consideration, Shavington-cum-Gresty Parish Council has decided to revert the responsibility for funding back to Cheshire Constabulary, this funding model has been adopted by many other local parishes such as Wybunbury, Willaston, and Rope for some time. This decision follows a detailed report by the Parish Clerk, which evaluated the cost-effectiveness of maintaining a dedicated PCSO and compared our service with that of other parishes.

Shavington-cum-Gresty has been one of the few remaining parishes in Cheshire East funding a dedicated PCSO. However, over the past four years, the cost of this arrangement has risen by more than 30%, and the additional expenditure has not had a marked impact on crime reduction.

Despite this change, the Parish will continue to have a named PCSO, ensuring residents retain a direct point of contact for policing matters. The Parish Council will remain engaged with Cheshire Constabulary to address any local issues. We also wish to reassure residents that on a day-to-day level, there will be no change in how policing concerns are handled, and the same channels of communication with our PCSO remain available.

The Parish Council will be able to focus resources on other key local projects, whilst still benefiting from the community policing model that has worked successfully in surrounding areas. More information about these initiatives will be shared in the coming months.
